Question by sannadi s: will there be any problem when we put on water on spectacles?
is there any decrease in power when we put some water to clean the spectacles or decrease in power

i don’t think so, not when it’s just water that touches them, it would be a different story if the water is carried by cloth (as in wiping)

what powers do spectacles have btw? can they make just one wish come true? lol – j/k

Q&A: Is there a reason behind Mr. Magoo’s refusal to wear glasses?

Friday, July 15th, 2011

Question by Jediknight89: Is there a reason behind Mr. Magoo’s refusal to wear glasses?
One of the most famous cartoon characters from the late 1940s was UPA’s Mr. Magoo, and wealthy old man that gets into trouble from being nearsighted (his failing eyesight), and his refusal to admit it. I am curious to know why he won’t wear proper eyewear in order for him to see what he is doing or where he is.

In my head, he is probably the kind of person that strongly believes in the fictionalized philosophies of–
1) People that wear glasses to see are frowned upon and made mockeries of because others refer to them as “nerds” and “dorks”
2) Star football players date the head cheerleader from both their high school and college.
3) People that do magic and use it for good are considered “freaks” and evil.

I believe that Mr. Magoo is looking for a natural way to correct his eyes without the use of glasses, contqct lenses or surgery. He has probably hears that wearing glasses will make his vision worse.

Are there any safe, reputable online optician stores that sell cheap high index lens?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Question by whatever: Are there any safe, reputable online optician stores that sell cheap high index lens?
Many local opticians have warned me about the lack of quality of lens bought online for single vision eyewear. I am reluctant to buy these lens online because my prescription is so high? What do you think?

btw, is there any real size and weight difference between high index 1.67 and 1.71? Many opticians tell me that the difference isn’t worth the cost because there isn’t much of a difference (.04 improvement versus a .07 improvement with the 1.67 if upgraded from a 1.60). I have seen the difference between the 1.60 and 1.67 and it’s very apparent.
btw, my prescription is -650 and -700

For the second part of your question, you were told right.

The 1.71 may be worth it only if your prescription is over – 8.00 Diopters.

One of the most important things in high prescriptions is the frame choice. The wrong choice can add a lot of unwanted thickness to those lenses , no matter what index they are.

As for the first part of your question , I would rather be fit for glasses by someone who has seen me, taken the proper measurements and will give me service after if a problem arises.

My local economy is more important to me also , than supporting Hong Kong’s economy.

Is there a set of glasses that have Transitions Lenses with no vision correction somewhere out there?

Wednesday, July 6th, 2011

Question by itwoqe: Is there a set of glasses that have Transitions Lenses with no vision correction somewhere out there?
I tend to do a lot of outdoor activity day and night- biking, jogging, etc. I need a set of glasses that can protect my eyes during these activities both day and night. I would just purchase clear eyewear for biking, but I need something more for general use as well. So I’ve come to the conclusion that I would like to get a set of glasses with no vision correction.

I have seen glasses with clear lenses that do not have vision correction- I was wondering if there were the same with the Transistion Lenses and where to get these? Any help is appreciated!

Boots the chemist sell sunglasses that have a slight tint then get darker in the sunshine.

You can go to an opticians and buy plain transition lenses (ask for plano lenses). They will cost the same as prescription ones, but they will do what you want! If you like that frame you saw, ask them will they be able to glaze them!
