Do people in the US say ‘glasses’ or ‘spectacles’?

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Question by Sam: Do people in the US say ‘glasses’ or ‘spectacles’?
I can’t find any dictionary references to people using the word ‘glasses’ separate from eg sunglasses, aviator glasses. I want to know about using just the word ‘glasses’, as in ‘where are my glasses?’

Answer by Forsaken
I wear glasses, the ones that make it possible for me to behold the world. Spectacles is what the elder of us tend to use. A spectacle in my world is something sensational that draws your attention. Like a two year old wigging out in the toy department at Target.

Sure, why not ?

If there is no correction in the contacts then it will make no difference, except for the colour.

Can spectacles / glasses be considered as a drug ?

Thursday, July 28th, 2011

Question by niaji: Can spectacles / glasses be considered as a drug ?
WHO – defines drug as any substance that is used or is intended to be used to modify or explore physiological systems or pathological states for the benefit of the recipient.

Best answer:

Answer by Troy
No, you aren’t modifying anything in the body with glasses. You are simply bending light before it hits the eye. This is more analagous to cutting out sugar in a diabetic diet vs. taking insulin.
A drug is also something taken internally, either by mouth, inhaled, injected, or abosorbed by the skin.
